Reckless Driving: Anthony Joshua’s Fatal Car Crash Driver Arraigned

The driver of Lexus SUV involved in the fatal car accident that injured former world boxing champion Anthony Joshua and claimed the lives of two of his closest associates has been arraigned before a Magistrate’s Court in Sagamu, Ogun State.

Gatekeepers News reports that the court proceedings took place on Friday, January 2, 2026, following an earlier investigation into the tragic incident that occurred on Lagos–Ibadan Expressway on December 29, 2025.

Forty‑seven‑year‑old Kayode Adeniyi, identified as a long‑time member of Joshua’s Nigerian logistics team, appeared before Chief Magistrate O. M. Somefun on multiple charges, including reckless and dangerous driving, manslaughter, and operating a motor vehicle without a valid national driver’s licence.

In the first count, prosecutors alleged that Adeniyi drove on a public highway in a manner dangerous to the public, resulting in a collision that led to the untimely deaths of two of Joshua’s companions, Sina Ghami and Kevin Latif Ayodele. Both men were part of Joshua’s training team; Ghami served as his strength and conditioning coach and Ayodele as a trainer, according to reports.

Subsequent counts detail that Adeniyi allegedly operated the Lexus recklessly and negligently, including failing to adjust his driving to road conditions and exceeding safe speed limits.

Authorities also charged him with driving without a recognised national driver’s licence, in violation of Nigerian traffic laws under the Federal Highway Act.

The Lexus SUV, bearing registration number KRD 850 HN, was reportedly traveling at high speed when a front tyre burst during an overtaking manoeuvre, causing the vehicle to spin out of control and crash into a stationary truck illegally parked on the hard shoulder.

Officials from Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) and the Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency noted that excessive speed and wrongful overtaking were key factors in the fatal collision.

Adeniyi pleaded not guilty to all counts. In response, Chief Magistrate Somefun granted him bail set at ₦5 million with two sureties, but he was remanded in custody at Sagamu Correctional Centre pending fulfillment of the bail conditions.

The case has been adjourned until January 20, 2026, as further legal proceedings and investigations continue.
