Anthony Joshua Leaves Nigeria After Fatal Car Crash

Former heavyweight boxing champion Anthony Joshua has returned to the United Kingdom following a fatal road accident in Nigeria that claimed the lives of two members of his inner team.

Gatekeepers News reports that the incident occurred on December 29 along Lagos-Ibadan expressway when a Lexus SUV carrying Joshua and others collided with a stationary truck.

Two of his close associates, Kevin Latif Ayodele, his longtime personal trainer, and Sina Ghami, his strength and conditioning coach, died as a result of the crash.

Joshua survived the accident and was taken to a hospital in Lagos, where he was treated for minor injuries. He was discharged on New Year’s Eve after doctors confirmed his condition was stable. He later travelled back to the UK as investigations into the crash continued.

Funeral arrangements have been made for Ayodele and Ghami, with both expected to be laid to rest following a service at a mosque in London on Sunday.

Ogun State Police Command confirmed that the driver of the vehicle, Adeniyi Mobolaji Kayode, has been charged with causing death by dangerous driving and driving without a valid licence.

The case was filed on Friday and has been adjourned until January 20. Although bail was granted for ₦5 million, the defendant remains in custody pending the completion of bail requirements.
