Troops under the Joint Task Force Operation Whirl Stroke have uncovered and recovered weapons during a security operation in Takum LGA of Taraba State.

Gatekeepers News reports that the operation was carried out on January 4 after intelligence reports pointed to the movement of a suspected link to a criminal network operating in the area.

Military sources said the troops mounted a checkpoint around the Zaki-Biam axis, where the suspect was arrested without any confrontation.

During initial questioning, the suspect reportedly cooperated and guided the troops to a concealed weapons storage site located in Amadu village.

Items recovered from the location included 13 AK-47 rifles, 39 magazines, 690 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition, and four hand grenades.

The military said the armoury was “professionally destroyed” after the operation to ensure the weapons could not be reused.

The force commander of the operation, Moses Gara, praised the troops for their discipline, quick response, and effective use of intelligence.

He said the success of the operation had cut off a major arms supply route used by criminal elements and reduced the risk of violent attacks in the area.

Gara also reaffirmed his commitment to improving troop welfare, logistics support, and overall readiness. He appreciated members of the public for sharing timely information, noting that community support remains vital to sustaining security efforts across Taraba and neighbouring states.
