Nigeria’s Super Eagles will take on Algeria in the quarter-final of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations following results from the second round completed on Monday night.
Gatekeepers News reports that Algeria booked their place after edging the Democratic Republic of Congo 1-0 after extra time. The match appeared headed for penalties before Adil Boulbina struck a powerful late goal to secure victory for the Desert Foxes.
Nigeria reached the quarter-final emphatically after recording a 4-0 win over Mozambique. The Super Eagles have been one of the standout teams of the tournament so far and currently boast the strongest attack, scoring 12 goals in the competition.
The clash is expected to be a battle between Nigeria’s free-scoring attack and Algeria’s disciplined defence, with the North African side conceding only one goal in four matches. Algeria has built its campaign on defensive solidity and quick counterattacks.
The two teams last met at the Africa Cup of Nations in 2019, when a late free-kick by Riyad Mahrez sent Algeria past Nigeria in the semi-final. Algeria went on to lift the trophy that year.
The quarter-final match is scheduled for January 10 at the Marrakesh Stadium in Marrakesh, with kick-off set for 5 pm Nigerian time.
The winner will advance to the semi-final to face either Morocco or Cameroon as the tournament moves closer to its conclusion.
