A Frontline Chairmanship aspirant in the forthcoming Ikpoba Okha local government area primaries under the platform of the All Progressives Congress, Hon. Ikponmwosa Clement Aitusi on Thursday hailed the appointment of Hon. Paul Usenbo to the Truth and Reconciliation Committee on Nigeria Bar Association crisis.
Gatekeepers News reports that following the recent crisis over an election were some group accused the NBA president of interference, the Nigerian Law Society (NLS) set up a reconciliation committee and appointed Paul Ehigie Usenbo, Edo State Commissioner of Power, as a member of the Truth and Reconciliation Committee set up to resolve the ongoing crisis within the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA).
The appointment, dated January 2, 2026, is part of efforts by the NLS to restore peace and professionalism following disputes arising from the NBA–Section on Public Interest and Development Law (SPIDEL) elections and ahead of the 2026 NBA presidential election.
The committee, chaired by the President of the Law Society of Lesotho, Mr. Tuke Lintel, comprises respected legal, academic, civil society, and interfaith leaders from across Africa and the Commonwealth. It is mandated to mediate between parties involved, hear grievances, and recommend steps toward reconciliation within the NBA.
Aitusi said Hon. Usenbo’s selection reflects confidence in his integrity and capacity for consensus-building, as the legal community seeks to avert further escalation of the crisis and strengthen confidence in the NBA’s electoral processes.
He therefore commended the NLS as Aitusi described the intervention as necessary to safeguard unity and stability within the Nigerian legal profession.
