Zamfara Clears Nine-Year Debt And Releases Withheld Certificates Of 50 Scholars

Dauda Lawal, governor of Zamfara, has presented academic certificates to 50 graduates of Crescent University, Abeokuta, whose results were withheld for nine years due to unpaid tuition fees.

Gatekeepers Newreports that the certificates were presented on Thursday at the Government House in Gusau, the state capital.

According to Sulaiman Bala Idris, spokesperson to the governor, the affected students were sponsored by a previous administration but were unable to access their certificates after the state failed to settle their tuition obligations.

He said Crescent University declined to release the results until the Lawal administration intervened and cleared the outstanding debt.

A statement from the governor’s office noted that the graduates completed their studies nearly a decade ago and include a first-class graduate in chemistry, as well as several second-class upper-division holders.

“The state government under Governor Dauda Lawal, after carefully studying the case, reached out to the university and settled the outstanding tuition fees,” the statement said.

“This gesture shows the state government’s commitment to the educational sector and is a clear indication that the state of emergency declared is yielding positive results.”

While presenting the certificates, Lawal reiterated his administration’s commitment to education as a cornerstone of his “rescue mission” for Zamfara.

He urged the beneficiaries to make productive use of their certificates and contribute meaningfully to the development of Zamfara State and the country at large.
