A minitruck carrying tomatoes lost control due to brake failure along Otedola Bridge on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway on Thursday, narrowly sparing a family from a fatal accident.
Gatekeepers News reports that the incident occurred around noon, with eyewitnesses reporting that the truck veered off the road and collided with other vehicles on the bridge.
“It was a chaotic scene; the truck slammed into ongoing vehicles, but thankfully the family in one of the cars escaped serious harm,” an eyewitness said.
Otedola Bridge has long been regarded as one of Lagos’ accident blackspots, frequently affected by truck mishaps, brake failures, and structural concerns.
Past incidents on the bridge have included fatal tanker explosions, container falls, and multi-vehicle collisions. Last year, a collision between an Audi and a truck killed three family members, while in April, another vehicle fell off the bridge, leaving the driver seriously injured.
Authorities continue to urge motorists to exercise caution while traversing the bridge, given its history of deadly accidents.
