Nigerian Artists Sweep Top Awards At 9th AFRIMA

Nigerian artists dominated the 9th All Africa Music Awards (AFRIMA) in Lagos on Sunday, taking top honours across several categories.

Gatekeepers News reports that Rema led the celebrations, winning three awards: “Artiste of the Year,” “Best Male Artiste in Western Africa,” and “Best African Artiste in RnB and Soul.”

Burna Boy was named “Album of the Year” for No Sign of Weakness and shared “Best African Collaboration” with Shallipopi, who also won “Song of the Year” for Laho.

Yemi Alade earned the award for “Best Soundtrack in a Movie, Series or Documentary” with her track You Are from the animated series Iyanu. In hip-hop, Phyno took home “Best African Artiste in African Hip-Hop,” while Tanzania’s Juma Jux was recognised as “Best Male Artiste in Eastern Africa.”

Among rising stars, Qing Madi was named “Most Promising Artiste of the Year,” and Chella received “African Fans’ Favourite.”

Other notable winners included Singuila as “Best Male Artiste in Central Africa,” Cindy Le Coeur as “Best Female Artiste in Central Africa,” Diamond Platnumz as a nominee for “Best Male Artiste in Eastern Africa,” and Denise as “Best Female Artiste in Eastern Africa.”

In Northern Africa, Adviser and Sherine won the male and female categories, respectively. Yo Maps and Nontokozo Mkhize were named the best male and female artistes in Southern Africa.

In Western Africa, Rema and Wendy Shay topped the male and female categories, while Burna Boy, Fireboy DML, and other Nigerian stars were recognised in collaboration, album, and video awards.
