Funke Akindele’s Film Smashes Records With Over ₦2 Billion At Box Office

Funke Akindele’s latest movie, ‘Behind The Scenes’, has made history by becoming the first Nigerian film to gross more than ₦2 billion at the box office, breaking previous industry records and setting a new benchmark for Nollywood cinema.

Getekeepers News reports that, according to its distributor, FilmOne Entertainment, Behind The Scenes has now earned ₦2,103,039,706 in ticket sales across Africa, including strong runs in the United Kingdom and Ireland, making it the highest-grossing Nollywood film of all time. The film’s success also makes Akindele the first filmmaker to top the African box office for three consecutive years.

Behind The Scenes tells the story of a successful entrepreneur whose generosity and personal choices strain her private life, touching on themes of sacrifice, responsibility, and emotional boundaries.

Funke Akindele expressed gratitude to cinema audiences, describing the achievement as more than a commercial success but evidence of strong support for Nigerian storytelling.
