Sokoto State Government has dismissed claims circulating on social media that residents of Tidibale village were chased out of their community by bandits, describing the reports as misleading.
Gatekeepers News reports that in a statement issued on Thursday, the state government explained that the individuals seen in the viral video are residents of Tidibale village in Isa LGA, but were not displaced by any bandit attack.
It clarified that the villagers were temporarily moved to the Isa Local Government headquarters as a precaution after a rumour emerged that bandits were planning to invade the community.
According to the government, the rumour caused fear and tension among residents, prompting the councillor representing the ward, Hon. Dayyabu Sani, to report the situation to the Chairman of Isa Local Government Area, Alhaji Sherifu Kamarawa. Following the report, the chairman ordered the temporary relocation of the villagers to ensure their safety.
The government stated that the affected residents have since returned safely to their homes in Tidibale village. It added that security agencies have increased patrols in the area to prevent any possible threat from criminal elements.
As part of efforts to strengthen security in the area, the state government has approved the establishment of a Forward Operations Base in Tidibale to support existing security formations in Isa Local Government Area.
The government reaffirmed its commitment to protecting lives and property across the state, especially in security-challenged communities. It said it will continue to work with conventional security agencies, the Sokoto State Community Guard Corps, and vigilante groups to secure rural areas.
The government also warned against politicising security issues and urged residents to cooperate with authorities by sharing useful information, including exposing informants within their communities.
It further advised the public to stop spreading rumours, particularly on security matters, noting that such actions often create unnecessary panic.
