Dangote Group has entered into a $350 million contract agreement with Engineers India Limited (EIL) for the expansion of the Dangote Petroleum Refinery, with the Indian firm appointed as project management consultant (PMC) and engineering, procurement and construction management (EPCM) consultant for the project.
Gatekeepers News reports that EIL, an Indian engineering consultancy company, disclosed the agreement in a statement, noting that the partnership builds on its earlier role in the delivery of the existing 650,000 barrels-per-day refinery, which was commissioned in 2024.
The refinery expansion plan was earlier announced by Aliko Dangote, founder of Dangote Group, who revealed that production capacity would be increased from 650,000 barrels per day to 1.4 million barrels per day.
“Believing in EIL’s Engineering and Project Management excellence, Dangote Group has once again joined hands with EIL in this endeavor and has signed a Contract Agreement of value more than US $350 Million to engage EIL as PMC and EPCM Consultant for this Project,” the statement said.
According to EIL, the expansion will involve the installation of a second processing train designed to produce Euro VI grade fuels, while polypropylene production capacity will be raised from 830 kilo tonnes per annum to 2.4 million metric tonnes per annum. This will be achieved through the revamp of the existing polypropylene unit and the installation of an additional 1.2 MMTPA polypropylene unit.
The refinery also plans to scale up output with a 750 kTPA UOP Oleflex Unit to boost propylene supply to the polypropylene units.
“The latest expansion further reinforces Nigeria’s mission to become a regional hub for refined petroleum products and petrochemicals,” the statement added.
EIL said the expansion, once completed, will position the Dangote refinery as the largest petroleum refinery in the world, strengthen fuel supply within Africa, reduce dependence on imports and enhance regional energy security.
“This Contract is a strong affirmation of the trust reposed in EIL’s capabilities to deliver projects of exceptional scale and complexity,” the company said, adding that the planned expansion is of global significance and will rank among the largest refinery complexes located at a single site.
