In democratic governance, continuity is not a favour to be begged for; it is an entitlement earned through performance, sacrifice, and duty conscientiously discharged. By every objective standard, Senator Adams Aliyu Oshiomhole, representing Edo North Senatorial District, has more than paid his dues and fully earned the right to continue serving in the Nigerian Senate.

Since his return to the National Assembly, Senator Oshiomhole has emerged as one of the most visible, vocal, and effective lawmakers in the current Assembly. His depth of experience, courage of conviction, and mastery of legislative processes have translated into robust participation at plenary sessions and incisive contributions at committee levels. His interventions are not merely frequent; they are substantive, issue-driven, and solution-oriented, earning him the respect of colleagues across party lines.

This exceptional performance has not gone unnoticed. In recognition of his legislative excellence and national impact, Senator Oshiomhole was bestowed with the “Senator of the Year” award by Independent Newspaper Limited, one of Nigeria’s most respected media institutions. The award, presented at a nationally celebrated ceremony, cited his outstanding contributions to debates, committee work, and effective representation of his constituency. In the same vein, he was shortlisted and nominated for the prestigious THISDAY/ARISE Senator of the Year Award, a recognition reserved for only a handful of legislators out of the entire Senate, further underscoring his standing as a top-performing lawmaker.

Beyond the National Assembly, Senator Oshiomhole’s enduring relevance and consistency in public service were further acknowledged when he was honoured as “Evergreen Politician of the Year” at the Democracy Heroes Award. He has also been conferred with an Honorary Doctorate in Political Science, in recognition of his contributions to governance, leadership, and democratic development in Edo State and Nigeria at large. These honours collectively validate what Edo North already knows: that it is ably represented by a senator of substance and national repute.

Outside awards and commendations, Oshiomhole has continued to provide firm political leadership in Edo North and Edo State as a whole. His influence, organisational strength, and clarity of purpose have played a pivotal role in strengthening the All Progressives Congress (APC), translating into electoral victories and party stability. It is no overstatement to assert that the APC in Edo State would not be where it is today without the leadership, resilience, and sacrifices of Adams Oshiomhole. His political capital has repeatedly been deployed in defence of the party and the democratic will of the people.

Unsurprisingly, such stature attracts envy. A few political adversaries, unsettled by his towering profile and continued relevance, have resorted to malignant criticism, propaganda, and calculated falsehoods in a desperate attempt to undermine his aspiration to return to the Senate for a second term. These schemes are as hollow as they are predictable. Oshiomhole’s name, record, and integrity are simply too tall to be bent or rubbish-heaped by cynicism and cheap attacks.

Those engaged in this campaign of mischief would do well to take a moment of honest reflection. Edo North knows its own. Edo State knows its champions. Performance, not propaganda, remains the ultimate judge in public life. By that measure, Senator Adams Oshiomhole has delivered—legislatively, politically, and morally.

Having paid his dues to party, state, and nation, Senator Oshiomhole is entitled not just to a second term, but to continued trust and responsibility. Those seeking to malign him should simply keep quiet, because the facts speak loudly in his favour. Leadership is validated by impact, and by every yardstick, Adams Oshiomhole has earned the right to continue serving—and indeed deserves even more—for his immense contribution to the APC, Edo State, and Nigeria.
