The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) says it is repositioned and ready to reclaim power nationally, following a high-level meeting with former Vice President Namadi Sambo.

Gatekeepers Newreports that speaking to journalists after the meeting in Abuja on Tuesday evening, PDP National Chairman Tanimu Turaki (SAN) said Sambo reaffirmed his loyalty to the party and offered strategic guidance on promoting unity, legality, and electoral competitiveness ahead of upcoming elections.

Turaki also clarified that the party’s 2027 presidential ticket is open to former President Goodluck Jonathan as well as any other aspirant from the South. Sambo served as vice president during Jonathan’s tenure.

Reacting to questions about Jonathan’s potential 2027 ambition, Turaki said:

“You see, like I have always said, we in PDP have taken a decision to zone our presidential ticket to the southern part of this country. For now, we do not know who may emerge as our candidate, even though we know those who will not be our candidates.

“So it’s open for every member of PDP that is living in southern Nigeria or of southern Nigeria descent. The process is going to be open, transparent and fair. It’s going to be equitable, and it’s going to create a level playground for everybody.”

The meeting signals the party’s intent to consolidate its southern base while preparing for a competitive contest in 2027.
