Tijjani Abdulkadir Jobe, the House of Representatives member for the Tofa/Dawakin Tofa/Rimin Gado Federal Constituency in Kano State, has resigned from New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP).
Gatekeepers News reports that the defector cited ongoing internal disputes and long-running court battles that have weakened the party’s unity and effectiveness.
His resignation was announced in a letter he wrote on January 23, 2026, to the NNPP chairman of Mobe Ward in Tofa Local Government Area.
In the letter, Jobe wrote, “Kindly accept this as formal notification of my membership resignation from the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) with immediate effect.”
He said that unresolved internal divisions and persistent legal cases at both the state and national levels had hindered peace and unity within the party, prompting his decision.
The politician added, “Please accept the assurances of my highest regard.”
Jobe’s departure is part of a wider exodus of prominent politicians from the NNPP in Kano. Recently, Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf also resigned from the NNPP, citing deepening leadership crises, prolonged court cases, and internal disagreements that have shattered cohesion within the party’s structure.
Yusuf wrote that his decision was made in the broader interest of the people of Kano State and was taken in good faith, without bitterness.
The Governor’s resignation triggered a political realignment, with 21 members of the Kano State House of Assembly, eight House of Representatives members, and all 44 local government chairmen in the state leaving the party alongside him.
Jobe did not immediately say whether he plans to join another party, but his exit adds to the ongoing political shift in Kano’s landscape as internal NNPP divisions continue to deepen.
