Bayern Paid Price For Poor Display In Shocking Augsburg Loss— Kane

Harry Kane has admitted that Bayern Munich were made to suffer for an underwhelming performance after their unexpected 2-1 defeat to Augsburg in the Bundesliga on Saturday, bringing an end to the club’s long unbeaten league run.

Gatekeepers News reports that Bayern went into the match as runaway league leaders and heavy favourites against an Augsburg side struggling near the relegation zone.

Despite taking the lead through a header from Hiroki Ito, the visitors lost control of the game in the second half as Augsburg responded with goals from Arthur Chaves and Han-Noah Massengo.

The result marked Bayern’s first Bundesliga loss since March and only their second defeat across all competitions this season.

It also ended a 27-match unbeaten run in the league, although the Munich side remain clear at the top of the table ahead of Borussia Dortmund.

Speaking after the match, Kane said Bayern deserved the outcome due to a drop in intensity after the break.

“We lacked a bit of energy. We weren’t so fluid with the ball and credit to them, they put more pressure on us and made it difficult,” the England captain said, adding that Augsburg were the better side in the second half.

Kane stressed that Bayern would not dwell on the setback and dismissed any talk of invincibility. “We would not make excuses,” he said, noting that the team’s main focus remains winning the league title.

He added that the defeat should serve as a lesson, warning that any dip in performance can be costly regardless of the opponent.

Despite the loss, Bayern remain in a strong position domestically and in Europe. The club has already booked a place in the knockout stage of the Champions League and is targeting a top-two finish in their group, with their final league-phase match against PSV Eindhoven coming up midweek.

Kane said the team has no time to sulk and is determined to respond positively in the next fixtures.
