Police Arrest Newly Married Woman Over Husband’s Death In Jigawa

Jigawa State Police Command has taken into custody a newly married woman in connection with the death of her husband, who reportedly became ill after eating food prepared at their home.

Gatekeepers News reports that in a statement released on Saturday, the police spokesperson, Shiisu Lawan Adam, said the incident occurred in Gauza village, Jahun Local Government Area.

He explained that the man allegedly fell seriously ill shortly after taking lunch at his residence on Friday and was rushed to a hospital for treatment.

According to the police, the victim was later confirmed dead while receiving medical care. Following the development, operatives from the Jahun Division launched an investigation and arrested the wife as the main suspect in the case.

Adam said the suspect allegedly admitted during questioning that she added rat poison to her husband’s meal.

“Preliminary investigation revealed that the deceased reportedly took his lunch at home, after which he fell seriously ill and was rushed to the hospital for medical attention. Sadly, he was pronounced dead while receiving treatment,” the statement read.

He added that the suspect claimed she sent a cousin to buy the rat poison used and further told investigators that she was forced into the marriage by her parents, a situation she said influenced her actions.

The police spokesperson disclosed that the Commissioner of Police has ordered the transfer of the case to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Dutse for a detailed probe. He said the suspect will be charged in court after investigations are concluded.

The identities and ages of both the deceased and the suspect were not made public by the police.
