Air Peace has explained that safety issues including a bird strike and poor weather caused delays and disruptions to some of its domestic flights on Wednesday, affecting services on routes such as Lagos–Port Harcourt, Abuja–Owerri, and Abuja–Port Harcourt.
Gatekeepers News reports that the airline said reduced visibility from adverse weather made normal operations unsafe, and a separate bird strike on the Abuja–Owerri service forced extra safety checks before the aircraft could continue flying.
In a statement, Air Peace spokesperson Osifo‑Whiskey Efe said that the airline’s operations and maintenance teams acted quickly and in line with aviation safety rules to protect passengers and crew before flights returned to regular schedules.
The carrier also apologised to travellers for the inconvenience and thanked them for their patience as teams worked to restore normal services.
The latest disruption follows other bird strike incidents in Nigeria’s aviation sector, where airlines have reported multiple cases of aircraft striking birds in recent years, leading to delays, precautionary inspections, and occasional flight cancellations.
Aviation experts have warned that bird strikes remain a challenge at several airports across the country, prompting calls for stronger wildlife control measures to improve flight safety.
Air Peace has stressed that safety remains its top priority and that its teams will continue to follow strict procedures whenever unexpected issues like weather or bird strikes occur, ensuring aircraft are thoroughly inspected before resuming service.
