Tinubu Mourns With Super Eagles Captain Wilfred Ndidi Over Father’s Death

President Bola Tinubu has sent a condolence message to Super Eagles captain Wilfred Ndidi following the death of his father, Sunday Ndidi.

Gatekeepers Newreports that Sunday Ndidi reportedly died in a road accident on Tuesday in Umunede, near Agbor, Delta State.

In his message, the President said he was deeply saddened by the tragic loss, describing the late Ndidi as a strong influence in shaping his son’s values and football career.

“I am deeply saddened by the tragic death of Sunday Ndidi. I share in the grief of his family, friends, and associates, particularly Wilfred Ndidi, who shared a strong bond with his father as a mentor and guide in his remarkable journey as an exceptional footballer,” Tinubu said.

President Tinubu added that the late Ndidi’s modest background, integrity, and sense of responsibility left a lasting impression on those who knew him and those who drew inspiration from him.

He also prayed for divine comfort for the family and asked God to grant eternal rest to the departed soul.

Wilfred Ndidi, a Nigerian international footballer currently playing professionally in Türkiye, made his debut for the Super Eagles in 2015 and has earned over 65 international caps.

He captained Nigeria to a third-place finish at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations and also featured at the 2018 FIFA World Cup as well as several AFCON tournaments.
