Governor Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom State on Tuesday expressed displeasure after discovering that construction at the Ekpene Udo General Hospital site began with a mortuary facility rather than clinical buildings.
Gatekeepers News reports that in a video circulating online, the governor was seen inspecting the project alongside state officials when he confronted the expatriate contractor handling the project, questioning the decision to prioritise a mortuary.
“Why did you start mortuary first, why mortuary? I say build hospital, you started with mortuary. Don’t say that kind of a thing again, don’t show me mortuary,” Eno told the contractor.
The governor’s reaction drew attention to what he described as a misplaced construction priority, stressing that hospitals should first focus on facilities meant to save lives.
Beyond the hospital project, Eno also inspected other key infrastructure developments across the state as part of his administration’s project monitoring drive.
He toured the Ikot Ekpene Udo Bridge and the Oron Marine Jetty, where he reiterated that the projects were designed to benefit residents of the state.
According to him, the ongoing developments belong to the people of Akwa Ibom and must be delivered in a way that reflects their needs and aspirations.
