Dangote Petroleum Refinery has reaffirmed its commitment to full regulatory compliance and close cooperation with the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA).
Gatekeepers News reports that in a public notice on Thursday, the refinery stated that its supply strategy is aligned with ongoing efforts to maintain market stability and ensure orderly downstream operations.
The company said it remains actively engaged with regulators and industry stakeholders to support Nigeria’s energy security as the country transitions from fuel import dependence to domestic refining. It emphasized that its operations aim to consistently deliver the benefits of local refining — including steady supply, competitive pricing, and market discipline — to consumers nationwide.
The statement follows a controversy last month when Aliko Dangote, chairman and founder of the refinery, accused Farouk Ahmed, the former NMDPRA CEO, of corruption. Farouk later resigned after a meeting with President Bola Tinubu.
Dangote Refinery highlighted its capacity to supply fuel volumes well above estimated domestic consumption:
- Premium Motor Spirit (PMS/petrol): 75 million litres daily, compared to the estimated national demand of 50 million litres.
- Diesel: 25 million litres daily, exceeding the national demand of 14 million litres.
- Aviation fuel: 20 million litres daily, far above the estimated domestic requirement of 4 million litres.
The refinery said maintaining supply above demand is key to creating buffers that enhance market stability and reduce reliance on imports, especially during periods of high demand or logistical disruptions.
On December 1, 2025, Dangote Refinery invited the NMDPRA to independently verify its daily petrol production capacity. The plant had planned to supply Nigeria with 50 million litres per day in December 2025 and January 2026. However, the regulator later reported that the refinery supplied an average of 32 million litres of petrol per day in December 2025, below the planned target.
