The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has approved the registration of two new political parties in Nigeria.

Gatekeepers News reports that INEC Chairman, Joash Amupitan, announced the development on Thursday during the commission’s first regular consultative meeting with political parties in Abuja.

The newly recognised parties are Democratic Leadership Alliance (DLA) and Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC).

According to Amupitan, the approval came after a thorough assessment process, following the commission’s receipt of 171 letters of intent from associations seeking recognition as political parties.

He emphasized that each application underwent careful scrutiny to ensure compliance with legal, structural, and organisational requirements.
