Ikeja Electric Distribution Company (IEDC) has instructed its customers to submit their tax identification details on or before February 20, 2026, warning that failure to comply could lead to billing challenges and possible suspension of electricity supply.

Gatekeepers News reports that in a public notice released on Wednesday, the electricity distribution firm said the directive is in line with the Nigeria Tax Act, 2025, which took effect on January 1, 2026. The new law requires that all invoices, including electricity bills, must carry at least one valid customer identification detail.

According to IKEDC, customers are expected to provide either their Tax Identification Number, Corporate Affairs Commission registration number, or National Identification Number to enable proper billing and regulatory compliance.

The company explained that the information is needed to ensure that electricity bills issued from January 2026 onward meet statutory requirements, adding that any invoice generated without the required details would be regarded as invalid under the law.

“To enable us to comply with this statutory requirement and reflect the information on your January 2026 and subsequent bills, we kindly request that you provide any one of the above details by completing the form below,” the statement reads.

“Please note that the deadline for submission is 20th February, 2026.

“In line with the provisions of the Act, any invoice issued without this information is considered invalid. Consequently, failure to provide the required details may prevent us from generating your electricity bill and could lead to the suspension of service after the stated deadline.”

IKEDC added that the policy is part of broader government efforts to strengthen tax compliance, improve transparency, and enhance accountability across service sectors. The company urged customers to act promptly to avoid disruptions in service delivery.

The electricity firm also thanked customers for their cooperation and assured them of its commitment to providing efficient and reliable power supply across its coverage areas in Lagos and parts of Ogun State.
