U.S.-Based Oji Shines On Nigerian Debut At Tiger Paw Invitational

Jessica Oji has marked her debut for Nigeria in style, finishing second in the women’s Shot Put at the Tiger Paw Invitational in Clemson.

Gatekeepers Newreports that Oji, who recently switched her sporting allegiance from the United States to Nigeria, produced a season-best throw of 17.74 metres to secure a podium finish in her first competition under the Nigerian flag.

The performance signals a promising start to her international career with Nigeria, as she aims to establish herself on the global stage.

Oji currently holds a Personal Best of 18.45 metres, a distance that places her on the verge of rewriting African athletics history.

Her best mark is two centimetres better than the long-standing African record of 18.43 metres, set by former Nigerian thrower Vivian Chukwuemeka.

With her proven pedigree and upward trajectory, Oji’s switch of allegiance is expected to provide a major boost for Nigeria’s athletics programme as she targets bigger championships in the season ahead.
