A hat-trick from Alexander Sørloth powered Atlético Madrid to a commanding 4–1 victory over Club Brugge on Tuesday, sealing a 7–4 aggregate win and a place in the UEFA Champions League last 16.
Gatekeepers News reports that the Norwegian striker delivered a clinical performance at the Metropolitano Stadium, proving too strong for Brugge’s defence throughout the decisive play-off clash.
Sørloth opened the scoring after controlling a long pass from goalkeeper Jan Oblak and beating Brugge goalkeeper Simon Mignolet, who failed to keep out the effort.
However, Brugge responded before half-time when Joel Ordóñez nodded in from close range after Brandon Mechele flicked on a corner, levelling the score.
Atletico regained control early in the second half through Johnny Cardoso, who struck powerfully from the edge of the box to restore the hosts’ lead.
Sørloth then extended Atletico’s advantage after a well-worked move involving Ademola lookman and Antoine Griezmann, calmly finishing Lookman’s cut-back pass.
He completed his hat-trick in the closing minutes, volleying home a cross from Matteo Ruggeri to cap a dominant night for Diego Simeone’s side.
Atletico, who are still chasing their first Champions League title, had started cautiously but grew into the game after taking the lead. Brugge threatened on several occasions, with Oblak making a key save to deny Hugo Vetlesen before the break.
Sørloth’s three goals ultimately settled the tie, continuing his impressive form after also scoring twice in La Liga at the weekend. The forward has now netted 10 goals in 2026 despite rotating in and out of Simeone’s starting lineup.
