A female officer of Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has lost her life after she was accidentally run over by an operational vehicle during a simulation exercise in Abuja.
Gatekeepers News reports that the tragic incident occurred on Saturday during a coordinated show-of-force drill organised by the agency as part of routine operational training and preparedness activities. Such exercises are regularly conducted to test personnel response, coordination, and emergency handling in high-risk scenarios.
Confirming the development, NSCDC spokesperson, Afolabi Babawale, said the accident occurred during the exercise when a patrol vehicle making a turn mistakenly knocked down the officer and ran over her. He disclosed that her identity had not yet been officially released pending formal notification of her family.
Videos circulating on social media captured the moment the officer was hit and trapped under the vehicle. The footage showed colleagues and bystanders immediately rushing to lift the vehicle in a desperate attempt to rescue her.
Emergency responders were promptly mobilised and evacuated her from the scene to a nearby medical facility, where she was later confirmed dead.
Babawale noted that NSCDC had initiated internal procedures to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident and that a detailed official statement would be released to provide further clarification.
The tragic loss has sparked widespread reactions across social media, with many Nigerians expressing condolences to the officer’s family and calling for stricter safety measures during security drills and training exercises.
NSCDC is yet to announce burial arrangements, as investigations and official protocols continue.
