At least one person has been confirmed dead while 11 others sustained injuries after Iranian missile and drone attacks struck airport facilities in Dubai and Abu Dhabi, escalating the ongoing conflict in the Middle East.
Gatekeepers News reports that the attacks occurred late Saturday night as Iran intensified its retaliation against sustained military operations by the United States and Israel.
Abu Dhabi Airports, in a statement posted on X on Sunday, said security forces intercepted a drone targeting Zayed International Airport, but falling debris caused casualties on the ground.
“Authorities in Abu Dhabi are responding to an incident resulting from the interception of a drone that targeted Zayed International Airport. The interception led to falling debris, which resulted in one fatality of an Asian national and seven injuries,” the statement said, urging the public to rely only on official sources for updates.
Officials also confirmed that four people were injured at Dubai International Airport following a separate impact, leading to temporary flight disruptions and heightened security checks across airport terminals.
Following the attacks, the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Qatar, and Kuwait shut down their airspace as a precaution, grounding flights and activating emergency response systems. Several international airlines suspended operations across the Gulf, while airports were placed on high alert amid fears of further strikes.
The latest escalation followed coordinated US and Israeli air raids on multiple Iranian cities, which reportedly killed Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, along with several senior military commanders. Iranian authorities described the strikes as an act of war, prompting immediate retaliation against US civilian and military assets across the region.
