A mobile court sitting at Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) Sector Command headquarters in Awka has convicted 35 motorists arrested during a special traffic enforcement operation carried out across major roads in Anambra state.

Gatekeepers News reports that the exercise targeted drivers who failed to comply with road safety regulations within the command’s operational corridor in the state capital.

The development was disclosed by the Anambra FRSC Sector Public Education Officer, Margaret Onabe, who explained that 44 motorists were initially arrested during the enforcement drive.

According to her, the court found 35 of them guilty of different traffic offences while nine others were discharged and acquitted after the cases against them were reviewed.

Onabe said officers recorded a total of 72 traffic violations during the operation. The offences included failure to wear seatbelts, driving without a valid licences, and non-installation or violation of speed limiting devices.

Other offences cited during the court session involved overloading, use of worn-out tyres, expired vehicle licences, and improper or missing number plates, among other traffic-related violations.

She explained that the special operation formed part of the corps’ ongoing efforts to strengthen compliance with road safety rules and reduce the growing number of road traffic crashes across the state. The FRSC has continued to intensify monitoring and enforcement on highways to ensure motorists follow established safety standards.

Onabe also stated that the mobile court proceedings were conducted smoothly and without disruption. Security personnel from the Nigeria Police Force were deployed to the venue to maintain order and ensure the exercise was carried out peacefully.

Speaking during the court sitting, the Anambra Sector Commander of the FRSC, Corps Commander Bridget Asekhauno, reiterated the command’s determination to strictly enforce traffic regulations and ensure offenders are prosecuted. She said the enforcement action was designed to discourage reckless driving and other behaviours that put the lives of road users at risk.

Asekhauno advised motorists in the state to obey traffic rules, ensure their vehicles are properly registered and documented, and always adopt responsible driving habits. According to her, compliance with safety regulations is necessary to reduce accidents, injuries and deaths on Nigerian roads.

She further stated that the command would sustain aggressive enforcement operations, strengthen public awareness campaigns on road safety, and continue working with relevant agencies to improve safety and order on highways across Anambra state.
