An explosion struck the United States embassy in Oslo, Norway, early Sunday, prompting a major security response from Norwegian authorities as tensions continue to escalate in the Middle East.
Gatekeepers News reports that the blast occurred at about 1:00 a.m. local time near the entrance of the embassy’s consular section. The explosion caused limited structural damage to the building but no casualties were recorded.
Residents in the surrounding area reportedly heard a loud bang and noticed smoke around the diplomatic facility, leading to an emergency response by police, firefighters, and bomb disposal experts. Security forces immediately sealed off the area while investigators began examining the scene.
Norwegian police said the cause of the explosion is still under investigation. Authorities noted that they are considering several possibilities, including the likelihood that the embassy may have been deliberately targeted.
