Daniel Daga, a midfielder for Nigeria’s U20 national team, has been sentenced to six months in prison by a court in Norway after being found guilty of s*xual assault.

Gatekeepers News reports that the ruling followed a case involving a s*xual act without consent, an offence under Norwegian law. The incident reportedly occurred in April 2025, leading to a police investigation and eventual prosecution of the player.

Daga, who plays for Norwegian club Molde FK, was convicted by a district court and also ordered to pay 10,000 Norwegian kroner in legal costs following the verdict.

His lawyer, Astrid Bolstad, said the player was disappointed with the judgment and continues to maintain his innocence. According to her, Daga insists that the encounter happened with consent and intends to challenge the court’s decision.

The young midfielder had earlier been charged with the offence in December 2025, after Norwegian authorities concluded an investigation into the alleged incident. During the legal process, his club suspended him from training and match activities while cooperating with the police.

Daga, who was born in Makurdi, Benue State, previously played for Nigerian clubs including Dakkada and Enyimba before moving to Molde in Norway. He has also represented Nigeria at the U20 level with the Flying Eagles.
