ELTAN Leadership Pays Courtesy Visit To Key Education Stakeholders In Anambra – Secures Support For State Chapter

The leadership of the English Language Teachers Association of Nigeria (ELTAN) has paid a courtesy visit to key education stakeholders in Anambra State. The visit aimed to strengthen collaboration and promote the teaching and learning of English language across the state.

The delegation was led by the National President of ELTAN, Dr. Kennedy Edegbe, alongside the National Financial Secretary, Dr. Maureen Ororho. The advocacy visit focused on building partnerships that will support teacher development and improve English language education in schools throughout Anambra State.

During the visit, the delegation met with the Honourable Commissioner for Education, Professor Ngozi Chuma-Udeh, at the Anambra State Ministry of Education. The Commissioner was represented by the Permanent Secretary, Dr. Ifeoma Agbaizu. At the meeting, the Ministry pledged its support for ELTAN’s programmes in the state, and training and professional development of all categories of English language teachers in Anambra State.

Speaking during the visit, the ELTAN National President, Dr. Kennedy Edegbe, expressed confidence that the partnerships formed would help equip English language teachers in Anambra with the training, resources, and professional support needed to meet global standards in education.

The team also visited the Post Primary Schools Service Commission, where the Chairman, Professor Nkechi Ikediugwu, described ELTAN as an important partner in strengthening the teaching capacity of English language teachers in secondary schools.

At the Anambra State Universal Basic Education Board, the Chairman, Dr. Vera Nwadinobi, welcomed the association’s commitment to improving literacy and English language learning at the basic education level and expressed readiness to collaborate with ELTAN.

The delegation further visited the Managing Director of the Anambra Broadcasting Service, Awka, Mr. Kryss Molokwu, where discussions focused on media partnership and how the media can be used to promote proper English language use and literacy among the Anambra public.

A major highlight of the visit was the formal recognition of the ELTAN Anambra State Executive Committee, led by the Chairman, Dr. Ifeanyi Nzekwu. Other members of the executive include Mrs. Evelyn Morah, Secretary; Mrs. Maria-D. Ezechukwu, Assistant Secretary; Mrs. Deborah Onuorah, Treasurer; Dr. Daniel Okoye, Public Relations Officer 1; Mr. Ifeanyi Nwokeabia, Public Relations Officer 2; Mr. Clement Edochie, Auditor; and Mrs. Ethel Obi, Ex-Officio.
