Authorities in the United Kingdom have announced heightened security arrangements ahead of the upcoming state visit of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to Britain.

Gatekeeepers News reports that Tinubu and Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, are expected to be hosted by King Charles III at Windsor Castle during the visit scheduled for March 18 and 19. The visit represents one of the highest diplomatic honours accorded to a visiting head of state.

As part of preparations, British authorities said strict security measures would be enforced across Windsor. These include temporary airspace restrictions, road closures and a major deployment of security personnel.

Officials disclosed that a no-fly zone will be enforced over Windsor from 7 a.m. to 11:59 p.m. on March 18 to prevent unauthorised aircraft, including drones, from entering the area during the president’s visit.

Police also confirmed that armed officers, mounted units, specialist search teams and road-policing personnel will be deployed throughout the town to ensure public safety and maintain order during the high-profile event.

Several roads around Windsor Castle are expected to be closed, while security barriers and surveillance systems will be installed as part of the protective arrangements.

Security officials said the restrictions form part of a comprehensive policing plan designed to protect visiting dignitaries and members of the public during the event, noting that Windsor frequently hosts royal and diplomatic engagements requiring similar security operations.

Authorities also warned that anyone who violates the airspace restrictions could face arrest under the United Kingdom’s Air Navigation Order.

The visit is expected to focus on strengthening diplomatic relations, trade and security cooperation between Nigeria and the United Kingdom, with stakeholders expressing hope that the meetings will deepen economic and investment ties between the two countries.
