Tinubu – Starmer To Hold Talks As UK Unveils Programme For State Visit

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is set to hold a bilateral meeting with UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer during his upcoming state visit to the United Kingdom, after British authorities unveiled the official programme for the trip.

Gatekeepers News reports that according to the schedule released by the UK government, Tinubu will undertake the state visit from March 18 to March 19, 2026. The trip marks the first time in about 37 years that a Nigerian president will carry out a state visit to Britain.

The visit will be hosted by King Charles III at Windsor Castle, where several ceremonial and diplomatic engagements have been planned. Tinubu and First Lady Oluremi Tinubu are expected to participate in official receptions and meetings aimed at strengthening relations between Nigeria and the UK.

As part of the itinerary, Tinubu will hold bilateral talks with Starmer. The discussions are expected to focus on economic cooperation, security collaboration, and broader diplomatic ties between both countries.

Preparations for the visit will begin on March 17 with security sweeps, road closures, and rehearsals for ceremonial processions ahead of Tinubu’s arrival. Upon landing in Britain, the Nigerian president is expected to be formally received by Prince William and Catherine, Princess of Wales.

The visit will also include engagements with members of the Nigerian diaspora in Britain and discussions aimed at boosting trade, investment, and people-to-people relations between both countries.

The trip reflects the strengthening partnership between Nigeria and the UK, with both sides seeking deeper cooperation in areas such as defence, migration, development, and economic growth.
