Chelsea Fined £10.75m And Handed Suspended One-Year Transfer Ban Over Rule Breaches

Chelsea FC have been fined £10.75 million ($14.27 million) and handed a suspended one-year transfer ban over historical breaches of Premier League rules.

Gatekeepers Newreports that the London club were also given an immediate nine-month ban from registering academy players, the Premier League announced on Monday.

According to the league, the sanctions stem from information disclosed following the 2022 takeover of the club by a consortium led by American businessman Todd Boehly from Russian billionaire Roman Abramovich.

Investigations by the Premier League found that between 2011 and 2018, undisclosed payments linked to Chelsea were made by third parties to players, unregistered agents and other individuals.

However, the league noted that even if those payments had been properly declared in the club’s financial submissions at the time, Chelsea would not have breached the league’s profitability and sustainability rules.

Officials added that the penalties imposed were reduced due to the club’s cooperation with investigators.

The Premier League said Chelsea’s “proactive self-reporting, admissions of breach and exceptional co-operation” were taken into account in determining the sanctions.

Meanwhile, the club has also been charged by The Football Association with 74 alleged breaches of its rules, also linked to information disclosed by the club’s current owners.
