Plateau Govt Alerts Residents Over Military Operation In Kanam As Death Toll Rises

The Plateau State Government has alerted residents of Kanam Local Government Area to an ongoing military operation targeting bandits in the Garga axis following a security incident on Friday.

Gatekeepers Newreports that the alert came after the Kanam Development Association raised concerns on Saturday over an attack on security personnel, including vigilantes, in the council area.

According to the association, members of a security patrol team were ambushed by bandits in the Garga area.

In a statement issued yesterday, the state government expressed deep concern over the incident, noting that it had caused panic among residents of the affected communities.

The government also commended security personnel and vigilantes who lost their lives while confronting the attackers.

Meanwhile, a resident of Garga community, Musa Yusuf, who travelled to Jos, told The Guardian that the death toll from the incident had risen.

According to him, the number of casualties had increased to 26.

“It is now 26. I am confirming it to you now. One of the vigilantes who died on Sunday is my brother’s son. I saw the six who died, including two soldiers,” Yusuf said.
