Morocco has said it is now looking ahead to hosting the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) following the favourable ruling that awarded it the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) title.
Gatekeepers News reports that the Royal Moroccan Football Federation stated that its appeal against the earlier decision on the AFCON final was not about disputing on-field performance but about ensuring “respect for laws, integrity, and fairness” in the competition.
After the ruling, the federation expressed confidence about the future, saying the country now “looks forward with confidence” to hosting the 2026 WAFCON and participating in upcoming global tournaments.
The decision comes after a controversial overturning of the AFCON final result, where Senegal was stripped of the title following a walkout during the match, and Morocco was awarded a 3-0 victory by Confederation of African Football (CAF).
Morocco is set to host 2026 WAFCON, which has been rescheduled to take place later in the year after an initial postponement by CAF due to logistical concerns.
The North African country has increasingly positioned itself as a major hub for continental football, hosting multiple tournaments in recent years and preparing to stage more international competitions.
