Sanusi To Lead Sallah Durbar As Kano Tightens Security Over Disruption Fears

The Kano State Government has announced that Muhammad Sanusi II will lead the Eid-el-Fitr (Sallah) durbar in the state amid heightened security concerns.

Gatekeepers Newreports that the disclosure was made in a statement on Wednesday by Ibrahim Waiya, commissioner for information and internal affairs, following consultations with the Kano emirate council and other stakeholders.

Waiya said the government had received intelligence reports indicating plans by some individuals to disrupt the celebrations.

He, however, assured that while the state remains committed to preserving its cultural heritage, it will not compromise on maintaining peace, law and order, as well as protecting lives and property.

Modified Durbar Activities Announced

According to the commissioner, the traditional Hawan Idi durbar will be led by Sanusi, commencing from the Kofar Mata Eid praying ground through designated routes to Gidan Shettima, and ending at Kofar Fatalwa within the emir’s palace.

He added that the Hawan Nasarawa procession will hold in a modified format, noting that it will not feature horseback riding.

Waiya further announced the suspension of Hawan Daushe, Hawan Fanisau, and Hawan Dorayi in the interest of public safety.

Security Measures Intensified

The commissioner said security agencies have been directed to heighten surveillance and ensure strict compliance with the government’s directives before, during, and after the festivities.

He urged residents to remain calm, law-abiding, and avoid spreading unverified information throughout the Sallah period.

Waiya reiterated the government’s commitment to a peaceful and hitch-free celebration, while wishing Muslims a joyful Eid-el-Fitr.
