Hyacinth Alia, Benue state Governor, has directed political appointees in his administration who intend to contest elective positions in the 2027 elections to resign on or before March 30.
Gatekeepers News reports that the directive was conveyed by his Chief Press Secretary, Tersoo Kula, following an announcement made during an Iftar gathering with Muslim faithful at the Government House in Makurdi.
The move, the Governor explained, is aimed at maintaining the pace of governance and ensuring continuity in the state’s development agenda. He noted that early resignation would give the government enough time to appoint replacements and avoid disruptions in public service delivery.
Alia also called on residents to support his administration’s efforts to improve infrastructure and workers’ welfare, pointing to ongoing road projects and better conditions for civil servants as signs of progress.
“I invite all people of good conscience to join hands with me so that we can make Benue a place that attracts everybody,” he said.
Reaffirming his commitment to the state, the governor added that he remains focused on fulfilling his mandate and improving the lives of the people, stressing that nothing would distract him from that goal.
The development comes shortly after President Bola Ahmed Tinubu issued a similar directive at the federal level, asking political appointees seeking elective offices to resign ahead of the 2027 general elections.
