Police in Delta state have arrested 11 more suspects in connection with the sexual assault of women during a festival in Ozoro community, bringing the total number of arrests to 15.

Gatekeepers News reports that the latest arrests followed a detailed review of viral videos showing young women being attacked and harassed during the ‘Alue-Do’ festival, which sparked nationwide outrage.

Police spokesperson Bright Edafesaid the command’s special team analysed the footage, leading to the identification and arrest of more suspects linked to the incident.

He confirmed that those in custody include several individuals allegedly seen in the videos, adding that investigations are ongoing to ensure everyone involved is brought to justice.

“These latest arrests bring the total number of suspects currently in police custody in connection with the incident to fifteen,” the statement said.

The police also clarified that the acts were carried out by “criminal elements” and do not reflect any legitimate cultural practice, stressing that those responsible will face prosecution.

The incident, which occurred during a local festival in Ozoro, had earlier led to the arrest of a community leader, Omorede Sunday, and four others over allegations of rape and assault.

Authorities have urged victims and witnesses to come forward with useful information, assuring the public that all reports will be handled confidentially.

The development comes amid growing calls for justice and stronger measures to protect women at public events across the country.
