Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has warned the public about a cyber hack attempt targeting its systems.

Gatekeepers News reports that the attempted cyber hack comes just days after a security breach was reported at the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC).

In a statement, it alerted Nigerians to a surge in fraudulent messages, emails, and online communications falsely claiming to originate from the CBN. It urged the public to disregard such messages and avoid sharing sensitive financial information.

The bank explained that the warning is part of efforts to strengthen cybersecurity awareness and prevent potential financial losses arising from phishing and related cyber threats.

The development follows a recent incident at the CAC, where the commission confirmed unauthorised access to parts of its system and launched a review of the breach.

The CBN’s alert highlights growing concerns over cyber threats within Nigeria’s digital and financial ecosystem, especially as government agencies and financial institutions continue to expand online services.

The apex bank reassured the public of its commitment to safeguarding the financial system and advised individuals and organisations to remain vigilant against suspicious digital activities.
