Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has suspended the permit of a private jet operator and grounded its aircraft after the jet reportedly landed on a public roadway close to Asaba Airport in Delta State, raising serious safety concerns.
Gatekeepers News reports that according to aviation authorities, the incident occurred when the aircraft deviated from standard landing procedures and touched down on a road outside the designated runway area. The NCAA described the action as a violation of aviation safety regulations and a threat to both passengers and people on the ground.
The regulator said the pilot’s actions were immediately flagged, leading to the suspension of the operator’s Air Operator Certificate (AOC) pending a full investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident. Officials added that aviation safety standards must be strictly followed to prevent accidents and maintain order in Nigeria’s airspace.
Preliminary reports suggest that the landing occurred near the Asaba International Airport perimeter, prompting emergency response teams and aviation inspectors to secure the area and assess possible damage or risks. No fatalities were reported, but authorities said the incident could have led to a major disaster if not quickly contained.
The NCAA stressed that it will not tolerate breaches of operational procedures, adding that the investigation will determine whether further sanctions will be imposed on the operator or flight crew involved.
The authority also reiterated its commitment to enforcing strict compliance with aviation safety rules across all licensed operators in Nigeria.
