Abia State Government has commenced the enforcement of its newly introduced centralised transport system in Umuahia, a move aimed at improving traffic management, enhancing public transportation, and promoting orderliness within the state capital.

Gatekeepers News reports that as part of the initiative, transport operators have begun a phased relocation to the newly established Nnenna Otti Bus Terminal, which will serve as the central hub for transport activities in the city.

The relocation exercise is designed to streamline transport operations, ease congestion in major parts of Umuahia, and provide commuters with a safer, more organised, and efficient transit environment.

Government officials said the centralised transport system would also strengthen the monitoring and regulation of transport activities while improving service delivery across the sector.

The authorities urged transport unions, operators, and residents to support the transition process, assuring stakeholders that the initiative is intended to create a modern and efficient transportation network that meets the needs of commuters and operators alike.

The enforcement exercise is expected to be carried out in phases as the state government works toward the full integration of transport operations into the Nnenna Otti Bus Terminal.
