Former Delta State Governor, Ifeanyi Okowa, has reportedly applied for the release of his international passport, which is currently in the custody of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) as part of an ongoing investigation involving the former governor.
Gatekeepers News quotes a report by the Guardian that sources familiar with the matter said the request was made in accordance with administrative conditions attached to his engagement with the anti-graft agency, which has restricted his foreign travel pending the conclusion of its inquiries.
According to the sources, the application is aimed at recovering his travel documents and could pave the way for international engagements or temporary travel approval for personal or official purposes.
However, it remains unclear whether the EFCC has acted on the request or what conditions may be attached to any approval that may be granted.
Okowa, who served as Governor of Delta State and was the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) vice-presidential candidate in the 2023 general election, has remained under public scrutiny following concerns raised over activities during his tenure in office.
While the EFCC is investigating matters linked to the former governor, the commission has yet to publicly disclose full details of the ongoing probe.
As of the time of filing this report, neither Okowa nor the EFCC had issued an official statement confirming the passport request or indicating whether a decision had been reached on the application.
