FAAN Introduces Facial Recognition System To Strengthen Security at Domestic Airports

Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has announced plans to deploy a facial recognition system across the country’s domestic airports as part of efforts to improve aviation security, simplify passenger verification and enhance the travel experience.

Gatekeepers News reports that the new platform, known as V-Pass, is being introduced in partnership with Verxid Technologies Limited. It will enable passengers to verify their identities through facial recognition, reducing reliance on physical identity documents during airport screening and boarding procedures.

The rollout was reviewed during a strategic meeting between FAAN and Verxid Technologies, where officials discussed implementation plans, security safeguards and measures to ensure seamless deployment across domestic terminals. FAAN said the initiative reflects its commitment to leveraging technology to improve passenger facilitation while strengthening airport security.

Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, had earlier said the biometric verification system would help eliminate inconsistencies in passenger records, curb unauthorised boarding, improve data integrity and boost revenue generation in the aviation sector. The system is also expected to close identity verification gaps by ensuring every domestic air traveller is properly authenticated.

The deployment of V-Pass forms part of the Federal Government’s broader drive to modernise Nigeria’s aviation industry through digital technologies and smarter airport operations.
