Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has questioned Femi Gbajabiamila, Chief of Staff to President Bola Tinubu, over his alleged involvement in the controversial Presidential Foreign Investment Promotion Council (PFIPC) scandal.
Gatekeepers News reports that fue interrogation forms part of an ongoing investigation ordered by President Tinubu into the activities of the controversial agency.
Gbajabiamila’s lawyer, Jiti Ogunye, confirmed that his client honoured the commission’s invitation on Monday and appeared at the ICPC headquarters at about 3 p.m. According to him, the Chief of Staff fully cooperated with investigators, answered questions relating to the probe and returned to his official duties after giving his testimony.
Ogunye said Gbajabiamila appeared before the anti-graft agency in compliance with President Tinubu’s directive that all relevant persons should cooperate with the investigation. On July 2, the President instructed the ICPC to conduct a thorough probe into the PFIPC controversy and submit a comprehensive report within 30 days.
The controversy began after the Presidency disowned the PFIPC, insisting that no such agency exists under the Tinubu administration. However, Adeniyi Adeyemi, who claimed to be the agency’s Director-General, alleged that Gbajabiamila personally signed his appointment letter. The Chief of Staff has consistently denied the claim, maintaining that neither his office nor the Presidency appointed Adeyemi to any position in the organisation.
Adeyemi later alleged that Gbajabiamila received ₦400 million through a proxy and demanded an additional ₦200 million to facilitate his appointment, accusations the Chief of Staff has rejected. Meanwhile, the Nigeria Police Force has filed criminal charges against Adeyemi over alleged forgery and impersonation. He was arrested in Osun State on July 14 after a Federal High Court in Abuja issued a bench warrant for his arrest.
The PFIPC controversy has attracted widespread attention after reports indicated that the non-existent agency allegedly secured office space at the Federal Secretariat, recruited staff and even received an allocation in the 2026 federal budget despite lacking any legal framework or presidential approval. Investigations by the ICPC and other law enforcement agencies are ongoing.
