A senior military intelligence officer, Colonel Abdulsalam Ude of the Defence Intelligence Agency (DIA), has been killed after resisting an attempted abduction by gunmen at his residence in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja.
Gatekeepers News reports that the incident occurred at about 10:45 p.m. on Monday at Phase 5 of the Army Housing Estate in Kurudu, shortly after the officer returned home from work.
According to the DIA, the assailants attempted to abduct the colonel, but he resisted, leading to a gun battle during which he was fatally shot. His wife, driver and a security guard also sustained gunshot injuries and are receiving medical treatment.
In a statement, J.E. Oti, Acting Assistant Director of Protocol at the DIA, described the late officer as a dedicated and gallant military intelligence operative who paid the ultimate price while defending himself and his family. The agency said security operatives have launched an investigation and are working to track down those responsible for the attack.
The killing has raised fresh concerns over insecurity in the nation’s capital, where cases of kidnapping and violent attacks have continued to pose a challenge despite ongoing security operations.
Authorities have assured residents that efforts are underway to apprehend the perpetrators and strengthen security across the FCT.
