Nigerian Auctioneers Association (NAA) has dismissed claims made in a July 27, 2026 media publication by Benjamin Abhulimen Isibor, accusing him of falsely presenting himself as the association’s president and misrepresenting its position on the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission’s (EFCC) disposal of forfeited assets.
Gatekeepers News reports that in a statement signed by its President, Alhaji Musa Kurra, the association clarified that Kurra remains the duly elected president of the NAA, having emerged victorious at the National Delegates Conference held in Ibadan, Oyo State, on October 28, 2023. The election, it said, was conducted in compliance with an order of the National Industrial Court in Bauchi, which directed the association to conduct fresh elections within three months.
The association maintained that Isibor is neither an elected leader nor an executive member of the NAA and is not recognised by any organ of the body. It added that contempt proceedings are ongoing against him at the National Industrial Court in Bauchi over the alleged unlawful assumption of the office of the association’s president.
Addressing comments attributed to Isibor on the EFCC’s asset disposal process, the NAA said they do not reflect the association’s position. It commended the anti-graft agency under its Chairman, Ola Olukoyede, for introducing a transparent and digitised e-auction system aimed at eliminating irregularities, expanding public participation, and ensuring accountability in the sale of forfeited assets.
The association noted that its members have actively participated in the conduct of the auctions nationwide and acknowledged that while some operational challenges were identified during the initial stages, they were resolved through collaboration between the NAA and the EFCC.
The NAA urged government agencies, financial institutions, prospective bidders and the general public to disregard any statements made by Isibor, stressing that only auctioneers duly licensed and certified by the association are authorised to conduct public auctions in Nigeria.
It further disclosed that the alleged impersonation has been reported to relevant security and regulatory authorities for investigation and possible action, while advising the media and members of the public to verify anyone claiming to speak on behalf of the association through its National Secretariat.
