Sixteen people have been rescued after a residential building collapsed in the Dan Dishe area of Kwanar Yashi, Fagge Local Government Area of Kano State, with several others feared trapped under the rubble.
Gatekeepers News reports that the incident occurred in the early hours of Saturday, August 8, 2026. The Kano State Fire Service said it received a distress call at about 4:32 a.m. reporting the collapse of the building.
Emergency responders were immediately deployed to the scene, where they rescued 16 people from the collapsed structure. Some of those rescued were reportedly unconscious and were taken to hospital for medical attention.
The exact number of people who may still be trapped beneath the debris was not immediately established as rescue efforts continued.
However, reports indicated that three children were among those who died in the incident, while others were rescued from the rubble.
The incident has renewed concerns over building safety and compliance with construction standards in Kano State, which has recorded several cases of building collapses in recent times.
Rescue operations were ongoing as authorities continued efforts to determine the full extent of the casualties and establish the cause of the collapse.
