Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has denied reports that it joined calls for Gianni Infantino, the FIFA president, to resign.
Gatekeepers News reports that NFF issued the clarification on Saturday through a statement published on its official X account, amid growing pressure on Infantino from some football associations and stakeholders over recent controversies surrounding his leadership of world football.
The federation said it had not issued any statement or taken any position calling for Infantino to step down, urging the public to disregard reports suggesting otherwise.
The clarification followed reports of increasing opposition to Infantino, with the Norwegian Football Federation becoming one of the most prominent voices calling for his resignation. Norway’s football chief, Lise Klaveness, said there was no longer trust in Infantino’s leadership.
The controversy comes after a turbulent period for FIFA, including disagreements over a proposal involving private investment in the organisation’s major competitions. UEFA has strongly opposed the proposal and has maintained that it has lost confidence in Infantino’s presidency.
Infantino has also faced scrutiny over allegations surrounding his conduct during his time as UEFA general secretary. He has denied allegations of an inappropriate relationship with a former female UEFA employee, while UEFA confirmed that the woman received a departure payment under staff regulations applicable at the time.
Despite the criticism, Infantino continues to receive backing from several football bodies. Earlier in 2026, the Confederation of African Football (CAF) unanimously agreed to support his bid for a fourth term as FIFA president.
