Nigerian troops have repelled an attempt by Boko Haram and Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) terrorists to overrun a military formation in Pulka, Gwoza Local Government Area of Borno State.
Gatekeepers News reports that the operation involved troops of the Nigerian Army, supported by the Nigerian Air Force and the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF), under Operation Hadin Kai (OPHK).
The terrorists reportedly launched the coordinated assault on September 7, 2026, as security forces continued counter-terrorism operations in the area.
Acting Media Information Officer, Headquarters Joint Task Force North East, Operation Hadin Kai, Captain Mohammed Goni, disclosed this in a statement on Tuesday.
Goni said the troops responded with sustained firepower and successfully prevented the terrorists from breaching their positions.
“The terrorists launched the attack as troops continued ongoing counter-terrorism operations within the area.
“Despite the intensity of the attack, the troops stood their ground and responded with sustained firepower and determined resistance, denying the terrorists any opportunity to breach or overrun their positions,” he said.
According to him, the terrorists eventually abandoned the assault and withdrew from the area with casualties, while troops retained control of military positions across Pulka.
He said the operation was reinforced by the Air Component of Operation Hadin Kai, which provided intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance (ISR) support to ground forces.
Goni said air assets subsequently carried out precision strikes against identified hostile elements as they attempted to escape, disrupting their withdrawal and frustrating efforts to regroup.
The CJTF also provided local intelligence and assisted the troops in maintaining situational awareness throughout the operation, he said.
One soldier sustained a gunshot wound to his left arm during the encounter and was immediately evacuated for medical treatment.
Goni said the soldier was stabilised and responding to treatment, adding that his condition remained stable.
Following the terrorists’ withdrawal, troops commenced exploitation operations to assess the damage inflicted on the attackers, recover abandoned weapons and equipment, and obtain intelligence that could support follow-up operations against the fleeing terrorists.
Goni said the successful defence of the military formation demonstrated the combat readiness and determination of Operation Hadin Kai troops in responding to terrorist attacks.
He also said the coordinated deployment of the Army, Air Component and CJTF highlighted the importance of joint operations in tackling terrorist threats across the Northeast.
“Troops remain firmly deployed and on heightened alert across the area, with aggressive patrols, surveillance and other offensive and defensive operations continuing to deny terrorist elements freedom of movement and action,” he added.
Goni said the military would sustain pressure on terrorist groups while taking necessary measures to protect civilians and their property.
He urged residents to remain vigilant and promptly report credible information about suspicious individuals, movements or activities to the nearest security formation.
He reaffirmed the military’s commitment to defeating terrorism and other forms of insecurity, protecting Nigeria’s territorial integrity and creating conditions for sustainable peace and stability across the Northeast.
