The Kaduna State Government says agriculture, health and education will receive increased attention in the 2027 budget as it continues to prioritise human capital development.
Gatekeepers News reports that Muktar Monrovia, Commissioner for Planning and Budget, disclosed this on Wednesday during the state’s 2027 expenditure and revenue budget defence.
Monrovia said the proposed budget would build on the achievements recorded by Governor Uba Sani’s administration over the past three and a half years.
He said human capital development would remain a major focus of the government, while early childhood development would be introduced as a new budget line.
According to the commissioner, the initiative would target children between zero and five years and further strengthen the state’s human capital development programme.
He added that social protection, security and infrastructure would also remain priorities in the 2027 budget, in line with the administration’s efforts to protect residents and address the needs of underserved communities.
“In the last three and a half years, His Excellency has done much in the area of security, and the policies and programmes will continue next year,” Monrovia said.
The commissioner said the 2027 appropriation would be the fourth budget of the Sani administration and the final budget cycle of the governor’s first term.
Agriculture Gets Major Attention
Monrovia said agriculture would receive significant attention because of its importance to Kaduna’s economy and the number of residents engaged in farming.
He said a survey indicated that Kaduna has more than one million of Nigeria’s estimated 42 million farming households.
“That is why His Excellency has focused attention on agriculture, and in the last three years, he has distributed free fertilisers and improved seeds to smallholder farmers,” Monrovia said.
He added that the governor’s rural transformation agenda was also designed to improve connections between farms and markets.
“The rural transformation agenda of the governor is also aimed at connecting farms to markets. This will boost the local economy and reduce rural-urban migration,” he said.
Monrovia said the state government would sustain investments in policies and programmes aimed at strengthening agriculture, improving human capital, enhancing security and upgrading infrastructure across Kaduna State.
